Pura Tirtha Empul is a water temple located at Tampaksiring area. It’s famous for the holy spring water where the Balinese Hindu go there for purification rituals.

‘Tirtha Empul’ means Holy Spring in Balinese. The fresh water come regularly from the spring. The temple has 3 different sections : Jaba Pura as front area, Jaba Tengah as middle area and Jeroan as inner area. The photos above are in Jaba Pura area.
As you walk deeper, you’ll see some ponds with many water taps of fresh water. It means you are in Jaba Tengah area. Here you can see 2 sections of ponds. If you are interested to try their ritual, make sure you’ve read the rules of the rituals. This is very important to prevent things that you don’t want to happen. Ladies with period shouldn’t enter the temple area, no bath activity allowed, no clothes washing activity allowed.
There are total 30 water taps in this area. You must clean yourself from the very first taps until the last. Every visitors, before entering Tirtha Empul area, are given fabrics to cover the half bottom body with yellow color fabric belt. It’s provided by the temple management for free when you must return it before you leave the temple. The entrance ticket cost Rp 15,000 per person.
When we entered Jeroan area, the Hindus are doing some ceremony. We did not stay inside for too long and not go too deep because we don’t want to disturb them.
